Climate notes for April 5th 2024
News has hit that EV demand is down. Which is causing a pile-on about the advent of batteries vs combustion engines. And frankly it's all nonsense. Do not panic into a single quarter's results. But certainly, do not build a narrative on such an isolated set of numbers either.
Instead, look at the aggregate. And look, with your best foot forward, to the future. The future isn't ICE vehicles. Not least because we are legitimately going to run out of fossil fuels. But ideally because there'll be a tipping point where governments and voters agree that fossil fuel companies are as egregious as cigarette companies are now.
But ignore all of that. EVs are the future of transportation when it's a car or bigger. But personal transport will not be EVs. It'll be your legs, or a bike. The bus you might take should be electric (whether thats battery electric or hydrogen, doesn't matter). But moving people around shouldn't be longer than 15mins, nor should it produce anything that harms the environment.

- Perth's dry spell could spell long term mess
- Mongol extreme weather is killing more than you think
- We need more natural infrastructure
- No, turbines do not kill birds
- Idiot got her child to kill birds nest
- Chine has scaled wind energy to the point of it being cheap. And in Ireland, we installed 0 turbines last year.
