Climate notes for February 9th 2024
I note below that some absolute idiot has decided to claim that EV ownership is impeded because of bike lanes. She is wrong, living in the past and is absolutely grabbing for attention. Her claim is effectively that bike lanes block on-street charging. Keep in mind, on-street charging is really a poor solution to a problem that largely doesn't exist today because batteries are bigger.
EV batteries need rapid charging hubs in car parks or designated zones, not slow trickle-charges that force a car to be parked on public streets for lengthy periods of time. Charging should be a destination activity, not something you do all the time. This woman is bucking a fairly common trend in narrative because, lo-and-behold, she is a huge importer of EV vans. And no doubt, her customers would love more on-street or freebie charging that doesn't require any time off-route. But again, her customers likely have meaty enough batteries to absolutely not require on-street parking. And certainly not at the cost of bicycle infrastructure.
